The field notes document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, September 3 - 23, 1910. Pages are numbered. Entries are dated and include travel details, describe terrain (layers, appearance, color, composition, measurements); elevation; locations along railways; hand-drawn maps and rough sketches of locations observed; weather; photographs taken; contacts and their information; and lists of plants by terrain type (sandy-mound, sand flat). When describing locations, often refers to roads and local landmarks. Types of terrain include bluffs, river banks, wells, and cuts in terrain (numbered). Locations include Muscatine County, Denison, Iowa; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Canton,(state unclear); South Omaha, Nebraska; and Rockport [Rock Port], Missouri.
