Abstract:
These field notes were created as part of the ‘Smithsonian African Expedition, Under the Direction of Col. Theodore Roosevelt (1909-10)’. This volume is comprised largely of specimen lists and location information. The specimen list includes collection numbers 1859-3094. Location information is generally inserted on a daily to weekly basis and includes references to landmarks, geographic features, and altitude. The geographic coverage spans what was then known as British East Africa, Uganda, Congo Free State, and Sudan. Following the specimen lists, there are twelve numbered pages that include pasted-in itineraries, maps, and a caricature of Theodore Roosevelt that was taken from a newspaper. A map insert can be found in a back pocket of the volume.
