Abstract:
Alexander Wetmore records specimen information and observations of birds in vicinity of his hometown of North Freedom, Wisconsin, and Independence, Kansas. Entries are chronological and begin with the date. If specimens are collected, specimen numbers are listed with the the bird's name (scientific or common), collector, appearance, sex, stomach contents, location, and measurements. After this, additional information is given in a journal style entry. Along the left-hand side of entries, Wetmore lists specimen numbers and names of birds (scientific and common) for quick-reference. He collects and observes in the woods, fields, and wetlands of the area. Several locations are visited repeatedly, and are often referred to by landmark or landowner's name. Wetmore comments on collecting with Art Rudy and A.B. Stout, and Ed Cheney. Specimen descriptions indicate that they collected several of the specimens in the notebook.
