The diary documents Waldo Schmitt's work during the Smithsonian-Bredin Caribbean Expedition, 1956. Diary covers March 2 - April 18, 1956. Entries are dated and journal style; intermittent entries listing dates, time of day, and activities, including anchoring, collecting, and destinations, in blue pen. Subject matter includes descriptions of modes of transportation, accommodations, weather, collecting materials for Dr. Foshag, locations where collected crustaceans, descriptions of terrain, interactions between participants and local inhabitants, and expenses. Locations include numerous islands in the Caribbean, not limited to Grenada, Trinidad, Redonda, Grenadines, Saint Lucia, and Antigua. In back of diary is a list of locations and dates (rough itinerary).
