The note reads: "My Dear Mr. & Mrs. Kelly: this photograph of my father, A.F. Tait, N.A. whose paintings you have was taken in July 1893, while sketching in Putnam County, N.Y.; accept this as an appreciation of your courtesies to his son. Arthur J. B. Tait, Dec. 13th/1937"
