Summary:
Peale is the creator of the lecture, but this copy is not in his hand. A note at the top of the first page explains: The original of this was purchased at the [illegible, page cut off] George N. Tatham [?] and is in the possession of his family. This was copied for me by his son George; [signed] M. J. Peale <br>Identity of M.J. Peale is uncertain, perhaps one of Rembrandt Peale's children. <br>Date is based on the fact that Peale presented this lecture at the New York Historical Society on June 16th, 1857. <br>The lecture discusses the canon of portraits depicting Washington.
