Additional Forms:
Photographs available online via the Archives of American Art website.
The photographs were produced for G.P. Putnam for its large paper, extra illustrated edition of Henry Tuckerman's, "Book of the Artists..." (1867). One of the 25 copies produced eventually ended up in the possession of the Macbeth Gallery, possibly acquired through auction of the library of S.K. Cleven of Iowa handled by Anderson Galleries in 1915. It was acquired by the Archives of American Art ca. 1960 with other Macbeth Gallery records. The photographs were removed from the folio prior to its transfer to the Smithsonian American Art Museum Library, and microfilmed in 1980 with the Archives' Photographs of Artists Collection Two. Photographer and provenance information (annotated, unfilmed) from Putnam's Monthly Advertiser is enclosed with the original folio housed at SAAM. A copy of Tuckerman's book (1867) [not the large paper, extra-illustrated edition] was also received with the Macbeth Gallery records, and has been cataloged separately.
