Summary:
Leatherbound manuscript, "Private Memorandum," including hints to painters interspersed with Sully's memoirs, quotations from letters, and other writings mostly concerning portrait painting techniques, such as preparation of canvas, mediums, varnishes, and the arrangement of colors on a palette. The main body of the volume was written between 1837 and 1839. At the end are three brief entries dated 1851 no month, 1858 Feb. 4, and 1859 Sept. 21.
