Most of the correspondence between Aschwin Lippe and colleagues concerns shared academic and scholarly activities. The correspondence provides little personal information or insight into life at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. An exception is correspondence from Marise Johnson and Jean Schmitt in the 1960s and 1970s. They handled Lippe's affairs when he was travelling and kept him up-to-date on colleagues and activities at the museum. Some 1964 letters refer to his "retirement" noted in Box 1 Folder 18. Lippe often filed correspondence relating to specific projects or publications with other material concerning that particular project. In such cases, the correspondence remains with the project and is noted in the folder title.
