Type:
Archival materials
Scope and Contents:
Pope's research materials on Chinese Ceramics include information about techniques, motifs and specific types of pottery. He placed most of this more general material at the beginning of the subject file. The remainder of the material was organized by dynasty and consists mainly of photographs. Dynasty folders sometimes include photographs of items identified as belonging to a different dynastic period. It is not clear if this is deliberate or accidental. Pope kept the photographs for a particular subject or dynasty together in single large folder. For the convenience of scholars interested in the provenance of objects, photographs that identify the owner or dealer of the object have been separated into individual folders.
