This series documents Dwight's research on Audubon through correspondence with museums, libraries, art galleries, educational institutions, state and local government archives, Audubon collectors, and other Audubon scholars. It includes requests for information, responses to the requests, and discussions of the proffered information. Dwight corresponded with the American Museum of Natural History, the Audubon Society and Audubon Magazine, the Boston Atheneaum, Brown University Library, the Cincinnati Historical Society, the Louisiana State Museum, the Maryland Historical Society, and others. There is also correspondence with fellow Audubon scholars, including Annie R. Coffin, Waldemar H. Fries, John Francis McDermott, and Kathryn Hall Proby; and correspondence regarding the collections of G. Edmund Gifford, Jr., Paul F. Laning, and Morris Tyler.
Also found is correspondence relating to Dwight's writings on Audubon for publications such as Antiques, and Audubon Magazine, which supplements that found in Series 2; and correspondence related to Dwight's 1960 Ford Foundation fellowship.
Arrangement:
State and city agencies and educational institutions, such as universities, may be filed alphabetically by name of state or city e.g. University of Liverpool may be filed under "L."
