This accession consists of records documenting three exhibitions in which insect zoo (named the O. Orkin Insect Zoo in 1992) collections were featured.
The Dynamics of Evolution Hall, which opened in 1979, featured a section on population potential that was illustrated with a full-size kitchen covered in freeze-dried cockroaches
that were reared by the insect zoo. Materials include scripts; instructions for rearing, preparing, and attaching cockroaches; and a photograph.
The traveling exhibition, America's Smithsonian, which began in 1996, included amber specimens containing insects from the collection of the O. Orkin Insect Zoo.
Materials include loan records, correspondence, object information, and general information about the exhibition.
The Smithsonian O. Orkin Insect Safari was a traveling exhibition of live insects which opened in 2001. Materials include a 2003 marketing presentation.
