This accession consists of records documenting Twitter accounts maintained throughout the Smithsonian Institution (SI). Twitter is a third-party site used for public
micro-blogging by SI staff. In addition to general SI-wide accounts, many of which are managed by the Office of Public Affairs, the accession documents the accounts of the
Smithsonian American Art Museum, including the Lunder Conservation Center and Ask Joan of Art; the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery; the National Museum
of American History, including the Lemelson Center and the Smithsonian's History Explorer; Smithsonian Affiliations; Smithsonian Enterprises, including Smithsonian Magazine;
the Anacostia Community Museum; The Archives of American Art; the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum; the National Museum of Natural History, including the Encyclopedia
of Life, the Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce, the Hall of Human Origins, and the Ocean Portal; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; the National Air and Space
Museum; the National Museum of African American History and Culture; the National Museum of the American Indian, including the George Gustav Heye Center; the National Portrait

date, time, and text of each tweet posted by the account holder as well as screenshots. Each of the accounts was captured sometime between July and October of 2010, but may
document activity back to the beginning of the account.
