Scope and Contents note:
Popular music recorded approximately 1916-1930s: 78 and 45 RPM phonograph discs produced by Edison recordings, Victor, Decca, Columbia, and Silvertone. Boxes 1-4: 53 10" Edison recordings of popular songs by such artists as Freda Hemple, George Hamilton Green, the Metropolitan Quartet, and Frederick Kinsley; also hymns, World War I songs, and some operatic selections. Box 5: 32 45-r.p.m. records, primarily by Victor, some Decca, others, by Eddie Duchin, Xavier Cugat, Guy Lombardo. Box 6: 41 45-r.p.m. records, including 16 by Victor, 4 by Columbia, 4 by Silvertone, 8 unlabelled, 3 family recordings, 4 in Greek. Artists include Eddie Duchin, Guy Lombardo, Wayne King. Box 7: Several volumes of Victor library, all 78 r.p.m. Artists include Ray Kinney, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Dick McIntire, Andy Iona. Box 8: Popular recordings; Christmas carols sung by Frieda Hempel, recorded by Edison; and family recordings.

This collection consists of popular music recorded between approximately 1916 and the 1930's collected by Robert S. Hartmann.
