Biographical / Historical:
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was established by Congress in July 1958 to manage the aeronautics and space activities sponsored by the United States outside of Department of Defense activities. NASA worked in five main programs to reach the objectives set in the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958: space science and applications, manned space flight, launch vehicle development, tracking and data acquisition, and advanced research and technology.
